Choose safari lodges and camps

Where you stay shapes both your rest and your daily route. Compare location, sleep, meals, surroundings and pace together, then use our trip record to put the setting in context.

Start with location

Two stays described as being near the same park can connect very differently to your route. Ask the operator to place each night on the itinerary and explain the transfers and daily departures.

Compare staying several nights with moving daily if observation or rest is your priority. Proximity and views matter most when they fit what you want to do each day.

Compare stays with five questions

Rest: do the room, beds, occupancy and setting suit your needs? A luxury label is not enough.

Facilities: how are bathrooms, hot water, lighting, charging and internet provided, and are any time-limited?

Meals: what food and water are included, what happens on early departures, and can dietary preferences be accommodated?

Setting: do photographs show your room category or shared spaces? Views, weather and nearby wildlife should not be treated as guarantees.

Route: how does the stay connect to the next day's activities, and would a substitution change the pace?

Look beyond the accommodation label

Lodges, tented camps, mobile camps and beach hotels describe different formats. Comfort, facilities and cost depend on the actual property. Our accommodation guide explains the terms in more detail.

Accommodation can be a substantial budget item and affects rest and departures. There is no universal share of cost or experience; protect the features that matter to you.

Explore the stays from our own journey

WGS01 includes eight accommodation records from our 2025 journey through Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar, alongside the daily itinerary. The six main films add context about settings and travel rhythm.

These records describe one past trip, rather than current rooms, prices or service promises. Ask for written confirmation of your own stays and substitution terms once dates are set.
